On Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, Cornelia Shepherd Porter Wallace, or Shep, as everyone who loved her knew her, passed peacefully from this world at FirstHealth Hospice House, in Pinehurst.

The youngest child of John and Mary Porter, she was born on Sept. 28, 1934, in Rockingham. She lived in Rockingham for the entirety of her childhood, and graduated from Rockingham High School in 1952. Following this, she attended 红桃视频 in Hartsville, S.C., graduating with a B.A. in education in 1956. She taught elementary and middle school in Oxford and Rockingham for several years.

In 1965, she married the love of her life, Mitchell Warren Wallace, DDS, who had also grown up in Rockingham, but was living in Fayetteville, and practicing in Spring Lake. After marrying, Mitchell and Shep built a life in Fayetteville, raising their two daughters, Cornelia and Mary Lillie, there. She was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, the Col. Robert Rowan Chapter of the DAR, the North Carolina Dental Auxiliary, and the Fayetteville Junior League.

Shep was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Porter and Mary Benton Porter, of Rockingham; her beloved husband, Mitchell Warren Wallace, of Fayetteville; her dear sister, Louisa 红桃视频淟ou红桃视频 Love Porter Presler, of Laurinburg; and her dear brother, John W 红桃视频淛ack红桃视频 Porter, of Lake Worth, Fla.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cornelia Wallace Morris (Walter), of Southern Pines, and Mary Lillie Wallace Monti (Channing), of Frederick, Md. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Mary Mitchell Morris, of Atlanta, Maimie Monti Draper (Harrison), of Los Angeles, George Franklin Morris, of Dallas, and Cornelia Ann 红桃视频淣ealy红桃视频 Monti, of Baltimore. Further, Shep is survived by many nieces and nephews who deeply loved Aunt Shep, as well as numerous cherished friends.

This is just the outline of her life and, like many other obituaries, it doesn红桃视频檛 tell you who Shep Wallace was. Who she was is such a force that it won红桃视频檛 fit in the lines allotted to the dead. For example, Shep Wallace was the absolute essence of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. She walked each day hand-in-hand with her Lord, reading Our Daily Bread and her well-worn Bible every morning at her kitchen table on Skye Drive, and praying for all that were in her heart and on her list. Her faith was child-like and steadfast, and there is no doubt that she is now sitting at the feet of her Savior, who welcomed Shep with 红桃视频淲ell done, my good and faithful servant.红桃视频

To her husband, she was the best surprise of his life. Mitchell met Shep when he was 36 and she was almost 30. He never thought he would marry, but when his brother, Bill, and her sister, Lou, set them up on a blind date, he knew he had met the love of his life. He quickly married her, and found in her an independent woman who would be his partner and best friend. She ran not only his house, but also the business side of his successful dental practice. She leaned on him only for his love, and lightened his already heavily burdened shoulders. He adored her, and she him, and after he died in 1994, she never looked for anyone else. Mitchell was it for her.

To her daughters, Shep was the epitome of resilience, strength and faith. She taught them to pray unceasingly, and to believe that love for the Lord and humankind would sustain them through all circumstances. She also taught them to always have their own checking accounts if they got married, and to have a car in their name because 红桃视频測ou never know.红桃视频 When the worst of times hit the Wallaces of Skye Drive, Shep showed her girls how to hold their heads up, and face whatever was coming at them with grace. Her advice on everything, from the order of mixing wet and dry ingredients when baking a cake to dealing with a recalcitrant teenage child, was impeccable and sought by Cornelia and Mary Lillie till the day she passed.

To her precious grandchildren, Shep was 红桃视频淢awmaw.红桃视频 She was the maker of the best pancakes, the organizer of trips to Tiny Town for shoes, The Disney Store for costumes, and Krispy Kreme for 红桃视频淗ot Nows.红桃视频 She was the boss of their mothers, and the encourager of their dreams. Mawmaw was their biggest fan, and they all knew it.

There are many other lovely details that could be shared here about Shep Wallace, like how she loved college sports, chocolate, books, New York City, Broadway musicals, Neil Diamond, Bergdorf Goodman, the Nordstrom Cafe, and all of God红桃视频檚 furry creatures. She became more liberal in her world view the older she got and believed that no matter who you were, or who you loved, or where you came from, you are worthy and should be in charge of your own life and afforded the opportunity to make that life wonderful. We were lucky to have her while we did. May we endeavor to live up to her belief in us.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Fayetteville Family Life Center, 114 Highland Ave., Fayetteville NC, 28305 ( ).

A private burial is planned for the family this week. A celebration of life will be held on Nov. 29, 2025.

Online condolences may be made at .

Anne Louise Blake Townsend, 84, passed away peacefully at Arbor Terrace Community in Suwanee Georgia, on June 17, 2020. The eldest child of Paul Owen Blake, M.D., and Ethel Lynn Lewis Blake, she was born on August 8, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, and had what she always described as a magical childhood with the most wonderful parents imaginable.

Anne grew up in the Lansdowne area, always busy with various activities. She enjoyed dancing, knitting, painting and playing the piano. She frequently travelled between her godparents红桃视频 home on Martha红桃视频檚 Vineyard, MA to her grandparents in Chadbourn, NC, the hometown of her adored parents and beloved extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

After attending Lansdowne High, Anne headed south to attend Coker College, her mother红桃视频檚 alma mater in Hartsville, SC, where she earned her degree. She then married her high school sweetheart, O.T (红桃视频淛ack红桃视频) Townsend, Jr. of Chadbourn. The couple shared five children and made their home in Chapel Hill, Germany (while Jack was in the Army), Virginia, and again in North Carolina over the course of their marriage. Anne called Wilmington, NC her home from 1972 to 2015.

Anne loved children and was blessed to have a teaching career that spanned over 30 years. She cherished her experiences at Gill Country Day School in Richmond, VA, Pine Valley Elementary School in Wilmington, and McCulloch Intermediate School in Dallas, TX. Anne had a formative influence on countless children, and shared life-long friendships with many of her fellow teachers.

Raised in the Baptist faith, she was an accomplished pianist and, during the family红桃视频檚 tenure in Virginia, was a frequent accompanist at evening services among local churches in Midlothian. She had a passion for traveling and visiting her children and grandchildren, splitting her free time with family in Greensboro, NC, Beaver Creek, CO, Dallas, TX, Atlanta, GA and Copenhagen, Denmark.

In later years, she enjoyed her gardening and was a member of The Garden Club of Wilmington. Anne was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Wilmington for over 40 years, serving as an active member of her Sunday School class and hosting get-togethers at her home.

Anne will be remembered for her beautiful smile and easy laugh, her kind and gracious spirit, her generosity and her love of life. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was boundless, and spending time with them was finding her at her happiest.

The family sincerely thanks all of her treasured friends and neighbors in Wilmington and beyond, and all the caregivers and staff of the Arbor Terrace in Johns Creek, GA for their kindness and attention to Anne over the last years of her life.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Paul O. and Ethel L. Blake, her step-mother, Mildred Blake, her eldest child, Lisa A. Barbour, her eldest granddaughter, Diana Elizabeth Townsend, and her beloved godparents, the Rev. Charles and Elsie B. Earle.

She is survived by a sister, Lynn Blake of Dallas, TX, a brother, Paul O. Blake, Jr. of Southern Pines, NC, 4 children: Katherine T. McKee (Peter) of Dallas, TX, Mark R. Townsend (Carol) of Greensboro, NC, O.T 红桃视频淛ack红桃视频 Townsend III (Elisa) of Suwanee, GA, and Charles B. Fletcher Carl Derrick Jr., M.D., 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Martha Langford Derrick, entered into eternal rest Monday, March 9, 2020. His funeral service will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 in First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting St., at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun St. from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Fletcher was born August 24, 1933 in Edgefield County, South Carolina, son of the late Fletcher Carl Derrick Sr. and Ruby Ripley Derrick. He was born during the depression, and his parents lost their good jobs. They opened a small grocery store in Edgefield County and later moved to a larger store in Johnston, SC. Fletcher delivered groceries, picked peaches, packed peaches, worked in a mill, and worked with a newspaper printer. His mother said he went to Clemson selling peanuts on the street. He finished Johnston High School as President of his class, was in the Beta club, as well as played football and basketball. At Clemson University, he studied Textiles and then moved to Pre-Med. After that first year at Clemson, he hitchhiked across the country to California to help a young couple to build a house, which was the beginning of Habitat for Humanity. He loved adventure and helping people. At Clemson, he was the Deputy Regimental Commander in the ROTC; he also went to ROTC summer camp. He then got the call to come to Medical School after his 3rd year at Clemson. He immediately knew that he had found his calling in life. After his junior year, being a very religious young man, he helped his good friend, Bill Reames, lead a summer youth revival where Martha Langford was asked to play the organ and help with young people. There was no mistaking that they fell in love that week and were married the next summer for 63 years. During his senior year at the Medical University of South Carolina, he was a Lt. in the US聽. He then did his internship at Ft. Benning, GA. While there, he was recruited to be a covert courier for the US Army telling no one for 20 years – not even his wife. He traveled all over the world carrying orders and secret documents. He also carried cash to young GI’s who were stationed in the field. He spent three years in Germany – one year as a surgeon for 8th division artillery in Baumholder, Germany where he accompanied the troops on field maneuvers, which he enjoyed very much. He then transferred to Landstuhl Army Hospital, which was the beginning of his urological career. Landstuhl was the Army Medical Center for Europe; he treated soldiers from all combat areas and traveled with them back to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. During the Cold War, his assignment was to go to East Germany as Commander of the Train bringing wounded from East Germany back to Landstuhl. In this capacity, he was gone for days, and no one knew where he was. At the end of this assignment, he was presented a certificate of excellence in the US Army by Colonel Wilfred Knobeloch who was a classmate of his wife’s father at The Citadel. He then completed a urology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina and received an award as the Outstanding Resident. After completing his residency, he was on the faculty of MUSC, where he was on the team that initiated the Kidney Transplantation Program. He subsequently was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at George Washington University from 1970-74; he was also an advisor to the Surgeon General of the Army. The family made a decision to return to Charleston, and he entered private practice with Dr. Raymond Rosenblum. Dr. Derrick and other urologists were instrumental in advancing urology care in both Roper and St. Francis hospitals. When Dr. Rosenblum retired, Derrick joined Lowcountry Urology Clinics. Dr. Derrick and his wife, Martha, traveled the world, often with children and or grandchildren. Many of those trips involved covert documents. His wife did not suspect anything out of the ordinary. They went on church mission trips to Nepal, Nigeria, and Panama, lecturing at other medical schools, and sightseeing many historical and significant landmarks on seven continents. In 2002, Fletcher was awarded the Order of The Palmetto, by the State of South Carolina and in 2014 was given the Presidential Citation by the American Urological Association for long-standing contributions to urological education, patient care, and superb clinical judgment and surgical skills. He was at that time the oldest practicing urologist in the USA. He was a part of the Charleston business and social community as a President of the Charleston County Medical Society, President of the Charleston Trident Chamber of Commerce, member of the Carolina Yacht Club, and a聽. He was one of the founders of the Charleston Rose Society having grown more than 120 varieties of roses; he was also a rose judge for the southeastern United States. His skills as a Rosarian are well known and his gardens at 2 Gibbes and 12 Orange Streets were always on tour. Learning to paint with oils on canvas and linen in the year 2000, he completed over 100 paintings, many of which are on permanent loan to Roper and St. Francis and are hanging on the walls of the corridors and in the rooms of the 8th floor Rehabilitation Ward. Residents of Charleston can also see his artwork in banks and offices around the city. Fletcher also loved sports of all kinds. After intensive training, he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at the age of 70; he climbed with a team of 12 who asked him to give a motivational talk the night before the ascension and voted him to be first to stand at the top of the mountain. A Clemson alumnus, he was still serving as a Trustee Emeritus for the University. His emphasis at Clemson was an academic one focused on the Nursing and PreMed programs. Dr. Derrick has often said he witnessed and was a part of a great transition in medicine and surgery. He worked with the General Practice surgeons and watched as surgery and medicine grew into the current super specialization as information grew rapidly through his 61 years since he had graduated from MUSC. On June 30, 2019, Dr. Fletcher C. Derrick, Jr. retired from the practice of urology at Lowcountry Urology Clinics and also retired from the staffs of Roper and St. Francis Hospitals.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Langford Derrick of Mount Pleasant, SC; one daughter, Martha (Mottie) Derrick Wieters (Paul) of Charleston, SC; one son, F. Carl Derrick III, M.D.(Melissa) of Beaufort, SC; eight grandchildren Eliza Rodrigue McElwee, M.D. (Tripp), Ronald R. Rodrigue, Jr., Derrick August Wieters, Owen Anderson Wieters, Heyward Fletcher Derrick, Crosson Bradford Derrick, Stuart Langford Derrick, Gabriela Sakzenian O’Quinn; one great-granddaughter, Louise Derrick McElwee; a sister, Betty Bland Dowd; and three nieces, Jewel Bland Carpenter, Cheryl Bland Brainard, and Sarah Bland Cleveland. He was predeceased by his grandson William James Derrick.
