Mrs. Donna Davis Freeman, age 88, peacefully entered into rest on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Zoar Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 4:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Dan Sullivan, Pastor Randy Bishop, Reverend Jeff Davis, and Brent Taylor. Following the service, interment will take place in the Davis Family Plot of Zoar Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, prior to the service at the church.

The Zoar Methodist Sunday school class #9 that Mrs. Freeman loved so much, is asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers will be Ricky Wallace, Ronnie Freeman, Farris Pigg, Joel Rivers, Jack Rivers, and Bob Robeson.

Born on April 4, 1937, in Chesterfield, SC, Mrs. Freeman was the daughter of Don and Dot Jones Davis. She graduated from Chesterfield High School and furthered her education by obtaining a bachelor’s degree from Coker College and a Master红桃视频檚 in Education from Winthrop College. Mrs. Freeman dedicated her career to teaching, beginning at Cheraw Academy and spending many years in Chesterfield County Public Schools. She passionately loved and nurtured her students, striving for their success. In recognition of her dedication, she received the prestigious SC Teacher of the Year award in the early 1970s.

A lifelong and faithful member of Zoar Methodist Church, Donna cherished her church and church family. She contributed significantly to church life as secretary, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School worker, and participated in various committees, including her beloved Sunday school class #9. Notably, she played a key role in designing and sewing the church pall which will drape her casket and proudly contributed to the eternal flame on the altar in memory of her late husband.

Donna enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and cherishing moments with her family. Together with her husband, Mr. Emsley A. 红桃视频淭unnie红桃视频 Freeman, they often explored the countryside, creating treasured memories. She was esteemed as a classy southern lady and the matriarch of her family and was fondly referred to as 红桃视频淢imi红桃视频 by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She actively supported their church, school, and sporting events, taking immense pride in their achievements.

The last five years as dementia took over her body, her inner beauty shone brightly and was always expressed through her loving spirit and beautiful smile. A lady who always put others ahead of herself, even in death, her generous heart is reflected in her decision to donate her beautiful long hair to Wigs for Kids.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Freeman has been reunited in heaven with her husband and love of her life for over 52 years, Emsley A. 红桃视频淭unnie红桃视频 Freeman.

She is survived by her son, Emsley D. 红桃视频淒usty红桃视频 Freeman (Linda Driggers) of Cheraw, SC; daughter, Christy F. (Wayne) Truesdale of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Anna T. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Clara, Annie, Trenease, Brenda, and Lois, and a special acknowledgment to hospice nurse Madison Lewis Sellers and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their extraordinary care and support over the years. Elsie Rebecca Bennett, 87, of Princeton, Texas, entered into God’s kingdom on May 30, 2023. She was born March 28, 1936 to Evelyn Kirkland and Albert Derrell Bennett.

Rebecca, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, is survived by her children, Evelyn Abbott (Doug) of Princeton, Texas; William Jackson (Elizabeth) of Darlington, SC; her favorite person in the world, her grandson, Michael Abbott; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her four older siblings: Rea Bennett Hedgecock, A.D. “Sonny” Bennett, Jr., Frederick L. Bennett, and Burton K. Bennett.

Upon graduation from Eau Claire High School, Rebecca attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC. She married Larry Jackson, and they resided in Florence, SC where she was a faithful and loving wife and mother. She was a devoted member of Central United Methodist Church for many years until her move to Bunn, NC. When she resided in Columbia, SC and Princeton, Texas, she took her love for God with her in all moves and found a church home wherever she lived, but she had a special love for Bethel Methodist Church in Columbia, SC.

Rebecca was a stay-at-home mother while her children were young and entered the workforce in the 1980’s. Always one with a gift for organization and attention to detail, she put these skills to great use in her roles with the Pearce & Pearce Agency, McLeod Human Resources, and the McLeod Foundation.

Being generous by nature, Rebecca was known for giving her time and resources. While living in the Pee Dee, not only did she serve in the Boy Scouts of America with her son, she continued her service for years thereafter. She also spent much of her time and organizational talents serving the local Republican Party. In fact, it has been said that she was instrumental in creating a viable Republican Party in Florence, SC. She also gave ongoing financial support to a local children’s home in Columbia, SC even when she moved out of state.

Over the course of her life, Rebecca was known to be quirky, humorous, and for doing the unexpected. Whether it was wearing toe socks with flip flops, claiming exhaustion by simply watching her neighbor work arduously in the yard, or wearing roller skates one day at work because her boss kept her “on the move”, she was always doing something that would make people chuckle and grin. Those who love her amusingly remember a time when parking her car on a particularly warm southern day, she rolled down all the windows and locked all the doors so that if it were stolen she could be sure to honestly answer, “Why, yes. It was locked.” While proclaiming to be a vegetarian, those who knew her well also know that she would eat a hot dog in a heartbeat. As her health declined in recent years, she jokingly stated it was because of her “allergy to Texas.” So whether it was in work, play, or life in general, Rebecca was sure to keep those around her smiling.

Elsie Rebecca Bennett will be forever remembered with affection as a loving mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to her family, devoted to her friends, and the “favorite aunt” to numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place and be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia, SC.

Betty Barnes Walpole Weller, 85, of Spartanburg, known by her family and friends as “Precious,” died Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Columbia, SC on August 13, 1936, she was the firstborn daughter of Elizabeth Glenn and Donald Alfred Barnes. She graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, NC and Coker College in Hartsville, SC.

She was the widow of H. Edward Walpole, Sr. (d. 2008) and James “Jimmy” Ward Weller (d. 2018). After graduating from college, she married Ed, and in their life together of 50 years, they began their family, their devotion to the Presbyterian church, and their contributions to society and the common good. In 2015, she fell in love again and married Jimmy, her high school sweetheart. They enjoyed three years together of tender love, devotion, and companionship before Jimmy’s death in 2018. She loved Jimmy’s family as her special “bonus” family.

She is survived by her two children, Dr. H.E. “Chip” Walpole, Jr. (DeAnn) of Easley, SC and Beth W. Neidenbach (Peter) of Spartanburg, SC. She was the proud “Precious” to seven grandchildren, Gambrell W. Burns (Jordan), H.E. “Trey” Walpole, III (Sydney), Caroline L. Walpole, Charles E. Neidenbach (Jane), Sarah Glenn Neidenbach, Charlotte E. Neidenbach, and Thomas M. Neidenbach; great-grandchildren, Estelle Burns and H.E. “Ford” Walpole, IV. Surviving siblings are Lucy Barnes Reiley (Chuck) and Margaret Barnes Peery (Pete) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty’s life revolved around her family and her church. Nothing made her happier than to gather family and friends around a table for celebrations, holidays, or any day. She was devoted to her parents, siblings, husbands, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and it provided her the greatest joy throughout her life. She was gracious, loving, feisty, sweet, hospitable, helpful, and kind. She treasured her many friends and held a very special place in her heart for each and every one.

Betty’s contributions in Spartanburg and other communities where Ed and their children lived are numerous. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg, she served as an elder, a deacon, extended session nursery volunteer, and was an active member of the peace and justice committee. In 1979, she was the co-founder of The Shepherd’s Center in Spartanburg, an inter-faith meeting place that provides educational and recreational programs for anyone aged 50+.

Betty had a true servant’s heart and was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone. She especially enjoyed sharing her beautiful roses and a loaf of Pure Joy cinnamon bread. She loved protecting and raising hundreds of bluebird families throughout her life- a love instilled in her by her mother.

The family wants to thank her loving caregivers at home and the staff at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for their excellent care in her final days.

Betty felt especially close to God through worship, organ music, and hymns. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg, ORGAN FUND, 393 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
