Sarah (Sally) Fletcher Timmerman, 82, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on March 7, 2025.

Sally was born on December 2, 1942, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada to Bob and Doris Fletcher. She attended public schools in Brantford, Ontario, after which she went to Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina, earning cum laude degrees in French and Business. After graduation she married Tim, her childhood sweetheart. During their marriage they lived in various parts of the United States and Canada before settling in Greenville, South Carolina, where they worked and raised their family for over 30 years.

While in Greenville, Sally was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and particularly cherished her involvement in Circle 3. She participated in many of Westminster’s outreach programs. She volunteered at Carolina Retirement Center (CRC), befriending and empowering its residents and considering many of them to be extended family. Her work at CRC developed into involvement with Gateway House, a clubhouse model designed to provide rehabilitation services to adult men and women recovering from mental illness.

Sally was known as a fierce protector of her family and was never more proud than when sharing the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, W. P. (Tim) Timmerman III of Richmond, VA, her children Martha Timmerman Speight (Bobby), Fletcher Timmerman Bowden (Mark), W. P. Timmerman IV (Leah), Jess Washburn Timmerman (Sarah), her grandchildren Wilton (Alexa), Griffin (Kirsten), and Jess Speight, Margaret and Anna Bowden, Tatum and Quin Timmerman, and James and Molly Timmerman. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Fletcher Morrison, and her siblings-in-law Evelyn Fletcher and Tye Joyce, and was preceded in death by her brother Robert James Fletcher III and her sister Martha Fletcher Joyce.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 9th at Bliley’s Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Ave. at 11:00 am. Family is accepting visitors at Bliley’s beginning at 10am and will be hosting a drop in immediately following the service at 3 Canterbury Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gateway House, 415 Rutherford St, Greenville, SC 29609 or to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2310 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605, or to the charity of your choice.

Conway… Mary-Frances Zachary Williams was born on September 15, 1942 at the Geisinger hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania and was named after her Paternal Grandmother and Aunt. She was the first of four children born to Roy Shackleford Zachary and Eleanor Crowl Zachary; having a brother, James Zachary and his wife Susan, Nazareth, PA; sister Ellen Holland, Stockton Springs, ME and sister Kathryn Davidson and husband Eric, Denver,NC.

Mary-Frances attended the Cranford, NJ school system and attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC where she met her future husband of 61 years, James Bruce Williams. They eloped during Bruce’s senior year, honeymooning in Wilmington, NC and after graduation began a military life in the Navy. Their first born, Lisa Ann Williams, arrived October 19, 1963 and sadly passed away December 16, 2012 of COPD. James Bruce Williams Jr. was born August 17, 1968 and lives in Pennsylvania with his partner Christine Mondello. Jim, “Scoop”, has been a very dedicated son over the years, visiting his parents during Mary-France’ illnesses. She was a two-time cancer survivor but succumbed to Corticobasal degeneration, a Parkinson’s like disease.

Mary-Frances held several jobs in the retail and manufacturing industry while living in Edison, NJ and then Pen Argyl, PA before retiring to Conway, SC in 2002. She was an avid gardener, knitter, seamstress, bowler and also tackled roofing projects and the like with her husband Bruce. Mary-Frances also enjoyed a variety of card games. She relished her victories over Eric in the latter years.

Bruce and Mary-Frances were enthusiastic travelers cruising over the world with approximately 60 itineraries. At the very least, they would take two cruises a year during their retirement years, booking their next trip while onboard the current ship. Occasionally, they shared these journeys with family members sometimes surprising them last minute. On one trip, the family wore “Zach Pack” tee shirts with the family logo of a Smiley face, long before Emojis were even popular.

While living in the retirement community of Myrtle Trace, in Conway, SC, Mary-Frances was part of the neighborhood watch effort. She would drive her car throughout the neighborhood as a safety measure. Bruce and Mary-Frances attended church at Shepherd of the Sea in Garden City, SC before her illness took its toll. They were active members of their community attending many of the social events and serving on various committees over the twenty plus years.

On March 1 2024, Evelyn Frances Warlick van der Vate passed away peacefully in her sleep in Leesburg, Virginia. Fran was born to Glenard and Mozelle Warlick on February 12, 1942, in Shelby, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter A. van der Vate. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah van der Vate; and her stepchildren Jan van der Vate, Susan van der Vate Friese, and Elizabeth van der Vate. The daughter of an English teacher and a physicist, Fran attended Coker College, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke University, ultimately holding graduate degrees in music and social work. She enjoyed careers as an organist and a K-12 music educator, and as an LCSW she became the Director of Social Work at Physicians Memorial Hospital in La Plata, MD. After marrying and becoming a mother she retired from social work to do administrative and accounting work for Precision Import Service, the car repair shop she and Pete opened, owned, and operated together for 25 years. Fran had a sharp sense of humor and a quick and clever wit, and could always find laughter in dark times. Active in garden club, she had a green thumb and an eye for beauty. She had a creative and artistic hand, especially adept at sewing and embroidery. Music followed her everywhere, in church choir she sang as a second alto and in the car she would harmonize with everything from the King’s Singers to Jim Croce. She loved learning for the joy of it, and was the reigning Jeopardy! champion of the household. She spent summers in the Outer Banks building memories with her family (a bit of a lead-foot-Lucy, but one too ladylike to describe herself as such, she often made impressive time on the drive down.) When not on the beach the avid reader could be found relaxing next to a pile of books, or working on a 1000+ piece puzzle with a Bloody Mary (lovingly-crafted by Pete, who took the task very seriously.) She delighted in the magic of Christmas, wrapping gifts in paper with crisp folds of perfection and trimmed with cascades of carefully-curled ribbons, filling the house with light and music, and baking cookies of such variety and quantity it was clear why she had redesigned her kitchen to have two ovens. Warm, welcoming, and true to her southern roots, she loved to bring people together with food and made everything with butter and love. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 15 and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, both at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 West Maple Ave., Vienna, VA. Interment at Fairfax City Cemetery will follow the funeral service. Flowers can be sent to Money & King. Online condolences and fond memories of Fran may be offered to the family.

Mr. Morris D. Pearce

September 8, 1942-August 13, 2020

Conway

Morris D. “Randy” Pearce, 77, of Conway, SC passed away on August 13, 2020. He is survived by his cherished wife of 57 years, Elizabeth “Lib” Johnston Pearce, daughter Kimberly Pearce Dean (John) of Alpharetta, GA and son Christopher Pearce (Jane) of Conway. “Didi” was so proud of his beloved grandchildren, Caroline Dean Foust (Michael), Emily Dean, ClaireAnne Dean, Samuel Pearce and Oliver Pearce. He often said when he married Lib he walked into a family of love – and he has been blessed with wonderful sisters and brothers in law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Bernice Howle Pearce, mother-in-law Queenie Richardson Johnston and brother, Johnny Lee Pearce.

Born in Hartsville, SC, he overcame humble circumstances by recognizing the power of education. He graduated top of his class and had mentors, including the late Gordon Herndon, who recognized his promise and encouraged his academic pursuits. He was a 1965 graduate of The Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. He earned his MBA from Emory University in 1966. After returning to the Lowcountry in the early 1970s, he was the Assistant Dean of Students at Horry Georgetown Technical College and worked tirelessly to lay the foundations at Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority. He and Lib owned Waccamaw Marine in Conway for nearly 30 years.

Randy was a founding member of Christ United and a long term member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Conway. He was privileged to participate in the first Seaside Walk to Emmaus. Through the eyes of his servant heart he often saw needs that were not apparent to others and quietly acted on His mission. Randy led by example – a believer in education, hard work, honesty, and to respect and care for others without regard to their station in life. He taught us to value ourselves, pursue our dreams but also to slow down and enjoy living! He took us on many adventures, both sanctioned and unsanctioned! He loved living on the Waccamaw River, where he was often referred to as the “Mayor of Caines Landing” and was blessed with many golf buddies at Shaftsbury Glen. He loved and was loved by the Feed and Seed Life Group of Christ United and the ladies of the Monday Morning Prayer Group at Trinity. Seldom has so much courage, strength, love and caring been held in such a small frame.

While we will sorely miss our “Didi”, we take comfort knowing he is freed from his earthly burdens and is at peace. The celebration of life will be streamed live on the Christ United Myrtle Beach Facebook page on Sunday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jeff Dunn and Rev. Jane Pearce officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Help 4 Kids/BackPack Buddies (https://help4kidssc.org) or Christ United (https://christislove.org). Mr. Pearce and his family are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home of 290 9th Ave. Aynor. (843)358-5800
