Joan Terrel “Terri” Bamberg Mt. Pleasant – Joan Terrel “Terri” Bamberg, 73, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Guy Erwin Hancock, III, entered into eternal rest Thursday, December 1, 2022. A private Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022. The family will receive friends Monday, December 12, 2022 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Terri was born September 16, 1949 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late George Hammond Bamberg, Jr. and Joan Cauthen Bamberg. Terri was a graduate of General William Moultrie High School and 红桃视频, where she received a BA degree in Business Administration. She worked many years in the medical field as a business office manager before retiring. Terri’s love for beach music and shag dancing was known by all who knew her. She also loved traveling with her late husband, reading and watching golf. Terri was raised in the Episcopal Church and enjoyed attending service and serving as a reader at Bishop Gadsden while her late mother was a resident. She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth “Lisa” G. Sharpe (Bill) of Mount Pleasant, SC; Sarah A. Gambrell of Mount Pleasant, SC; and Charles E. Dr. Susan Weathers Floyd, 72, of Lake City, South Carolina, died Saturday, October 9th, 2021 in Florence, South Carolina. She was the wife of Dr. Lane Napier Floyd and the loving mother, grandmother, and aunt to her two sons, four grandchildren, one niece, and three nephews.

Dr. Susan Floyd was born April 25th, 1949 in Orangeburg, SC. She was the daughter of George and the late Ruth Smith Weathers of Bowman, SC. She was raised in Bowman, SC.

Dr. Susan Floyd earned her Bachelor of Arts from Coker College in Hartsville, SC in 1971. While as an undergraduate at Coker College, Floyd earned the Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award for leadership. Dr. Floyd earned her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC in 1974. Finally, Floyd earned her Ph.D. in Speech Pathology in 1999, also from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.

Dr. Floyd served the children of Lake City, the Lake City community and Florence County School District Three schools for 30+ years as a public school speech-language pathologist and as the Supervisor of Speech Services in Florence District Three. To culminate her career of public service, Dr. Floyd served as the Education Associate for the Speech-Language Disabilities and Assistive Technology at the South Carolina Department of Education.

Dr. Susan Weathers Floyd partnered with her husband Dr. Lane Floyd in Floyd & Floyd Associates, LLC, an educational communications company specializing in improving communication in educational settings through presentations, consultations, workshops, and publications. Dr. Floyd presented her “Phonological Awareness Treatment and Intervention” literacy model and “Communication Collaboration” framework for standards-aligned school-based services at seminars, conferences and school districts across the nation. As the presenter and Vice President of Floyd & Floyd Associates, Dr. Floyd provided presentations and professional development for educators in 37 states during her tenure. She also served as the ASHA Legislative Councilor for South Carolina and was a member of the ASHA Division 16 for school-based services.

Dr. Susan Floyd earned the national 2001 Roland J. Van Hattum Award presented by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation as the top speech clinician in the entire nation. Floyd was also awarded the ASHA Clinical Achievement Award for South Carolina in 2001 and the DiCarlo Award for Clinical Achievement in 1992.

Dr. Susan Floyd’s interests included spending time at the beach cottage with her family, attending SC Gamecock football games, and engaging with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Dr. Susan Floyd is well-known by all in the Lake City community for her relentless, positive spirit and her desire to improve the lives of every person she encountered. Dr. Susan Floyd is thankful for the care and concern provided by loved ones during her illness. She is particularly grateful for the love, care, and counsel provided by Sylvia Burgess of Lake City, SC during her struggle with illness.

Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Dr. Lane N. Floyd of Lake City; son, Dr. James Weathers Floyd of Columbia SC; son, Dr. Scott Napier Floyd of Aiken, SC; father, George Weathers of Bowman, SC, daughter-in-law, Lenora Elizabeth Floyd of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Brittany Burgess Floyd of Aiken; grandson, Elijah Napier Floyd of Aiken; granddaughter, Eleanor Susan Floyd of Columbia, SC; granddaughter Evelyn Mary Floyd of Columbia, SC; grandson, Isaiah Kennedy Floyd of Aiken, SC; brother, Jimmy Weathers of Bowman, SC; brother and sister in-law Bruce and Laura Floyd of Florence, SC; niece, Stacey Walter of Orangeburg, SC; nephew, Wells Floyd of Brazil; and nephew, Adam Weathers of Bowman, SC

Amy Conner Byrd, 71, passed away October 5, 2020 in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on April 15, 1949 to Colonel Parker and Mrs. Amy Connor.Amy achieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Coker College in South Carolina. Mr. Arnold Bryan Hall, Sr. entered into rest on Monday, May 18, 2020. A private service, led by Pastor Carl Hunsucker, will be held at the St. Luke Memory Garden in Hartsville, SC. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late Luther and Jacqueline Redic Hall. Arnold was married for 54 years to his high school sweetheart, Janet Williams. A graduate of Coker College, he owned Classic Carriers Trucking Company for many years. He was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church, where he previously served on the church红桃视频檚 transportation committee and enjoyed performing with the handbell choir. In retirement, Arnold and Janet enjoyed traveling and playing golf.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Janet, of the home; son, Arnold Bryan Hall, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Shannon Hall of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, William Hall of Oxford, MS and Matthew Hall of Atlanta, GA; and sister Annette (Claude) Wint of Hartsville.

With bright blue eyes, a smile that would light up a room, and a warm personality that turned every new acquaintance into a friend, Esther Poole Garrett, 70, a resident of Asheville, NC and Charleston, SC passed away on May 3, 2020 after a brief illness. At the time of her death, she was a patient at the CarePartners Hospice Facility at 21 Belvedere Road in Asheville,聽NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Esther Poole and her grandson Garrett Christopher Hodgdon.
She is survived by her husband Major General (Retired) Joseph G. (Skip) Garrett III; a daughter, Rebecca Garrett Nelson (husband Mike) of Raleigh, NC; a son, Christopher Fray Garrett of the residence in Asheville; a granddaughter Ellen Florance Hodgdon, a Pharmacy Student at the University of South Carolina in Columbia; a brother Frank R. Poole III (wife Janet) of Greensboro, NC, an aunt, several cousins, and many, many wonderful聽friends.

She and Skip were married in 1969 at the First Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC one week after he graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, SC and was commissioned in the U.S. Army. Over the next 32 years during Skip红桃视频檚 Army career they moved 23 times and the family was stationed in both the United States and in Germany. She was a superb cook and homemaker and enjoyed traveling with her husband and many friends throughout the world and spending time with her family at their condo in Charleston, SC where they frequently participated in activities at The Citadel. In 2019, the Garretts celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a cruise on the Queen Mary II to England and then met their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter in Paris for a week of聽sightseeing.

Known to all as Beth, she was born in St. Leo红桃视频檚 Hospital in Greensboro, NC on September 28, 1949. She graduated in 1967 from Curry High School which at the time was the demonstration school for the Education Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC and became a Registered Nurse upon graduation from Northern Virginia Community College in 1980 enjoying a career of over 20 years working as an OB/GYN nurse both in the U.S and in U.S. military hospitals overseas before聽retiring.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Blue Ridge Premier Medicine, particularly Dr. Richard Arwood, Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, and at CarePartners Hospice for their loving care and compassion shown to Beth during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name will be welcomed at The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409 for the Major General Joseph G. Garrett III and Esther P. Garrett Scholarship or to the Manna Food Bank, 627 Swannanoa River Road, Asheville, NC聽28803.

A burial service will be scheduled at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the聽family.

Lucy Jones Murphy, 92, of Irvington, Virginia passed away on April 10, 2020.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret M. Sadler of Louisa, Va. and Lucy Theodorick Cawood Murphy of Richmond, Va; three grandchildren, Henry Philip Sadler, III, Elizabeth Wesley Sadler Rabb (Russ)and Mark Granville Boush, Jr. and four great grandchildren, Lucy Murphy Rabb, Russell Lenwood Rabb, Henry Philip Sadler, IV and Charlotte James Sadler. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Murphy.

Mrs. Murphy served on the following boards: William and Mary Alumni Society Board of Directors (1988-1994), Lower Northern Neck Chapter Society of the Alumni (W& M), Commission of Historic Resources for Lancaster County, Virginia Educational Loan Authority Board Member for eight years, Northern Virginia Consortium of Community Colleges and Bank of Lancaster Advisory Board. She also was a member for 65 years of Chi Omega Sorority William and Mary Chapter.

At his request, his ashes will be scattered on his beloved Belcher Mountain near Woolwine. This will take place as part of a memorial celebration at a later date which will be announced.
Tex graduated from Duke University in 1971, earned a Master红桃视频檚 in Fine Arts from UNC-G and spent much of his career teaching English literature to high school students, sailors on US Naval ships and on the college and university levels. He also worked in television news and print journalism. A Viet Nam veteran, he was published poet and spent many hours in his apple orchard on Belcher Mountain, to use his words, 红桃视频渕aking apples.红桃视频 He advocated for ballot access in Virginia, and his seven-year court battle resulted in the reduction of signatures required to run for public office in the Commonwealth.
He is survived by a son, George R. Wood Jr., West Asheville, NC; a sister Sarah W. Safrit, Beaufort, NC; two brothers, the Rev. W. Reed Wood Jr., Salisbury, NC; D. Michael Wood, Summerfield, NC; a half-sister, Julia R. Wood, Greensboro, NC; and a stepbrother, Stephen Russell, Climax, NC.

Catherine (Cathey) Belk French passed away on Thursday, September,19, 2019. A funeral service will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, an internment will follow in the church memorial garden. Rev. Pickett Wall will officiate.

She was born on March 9, 1949 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Bundy Farice Belk and Nancy Catherine Starnes Belk. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1967 and graduated with a BFA from Coker College in 1971. She also earned an Associate of Science degree from Wingate College, Wingate, NC. Catherine was a talented photographer, a gourmet cook, an avid tennis player, artist, Master Gardener, Level 1 Sommelier, choir member and a talented basketball player, a creative and fun loving person who will be missed by her many special friends.

Catherine is survived by her two brothers, Bundy Farice Belk, Jr. and Michael Eugene Belk; nieces and nephews and her friend and companion, the love of her life, Kit, her Cairn Terrier.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Springdale Hall Club, past president of the Camden Garden Club (2012-2014) and from 2014-2018 she was the talented creative director and fund raiser at the Steeplechase Museum in Camden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Grace Episcopal Church, 1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden, SC 29020, and to the Kershaw County Humane Society, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC 29020.

Yvonne Abernathy Penn, 69, passed away on Aug. 7, 2018, in her residence. She was born March 26, 1949, in Spartanburg, S.C., to J.C. Abernathy and Margaret Hilda Petit Abernathy. Yvonne was a case manager for the West Central Indiana Economic Development District for over 26 years. After her retirement in 2010, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She received her B.A. degree from 红桃视频 in South Carolina. She was a member of the Berean Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Don Penn Sr., whom she married Aug. 1, 1970; her son, Don Penn Jr. (Kristi); her daughter, Alison Cottrell (Dean); grandchildren, Jacee Cottrell, Abbey Cottrell and Danielle Isbell (Wes); and great-grandchildren, Ethan Isbell and Owen Isbell. Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, from 11a.m.to 1 p.m. in Roselawn Funeral Home with services to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Larry Lilly officiating.
