A memorial service for Ollie Wayne Nappier, 81, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Nappier died Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Born in Sylacauga, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Calvin Nappier and Ollie White Nappier. Surviving are his wife, Karin Neubert Nappier; son, Mark Andrew Nappier (Pamela); and two grandchildren, Courtney Nappier Asbaty (Brian) and Mark Andrew Nappier, Jr. Mr. Nappier was pre-deceased by three brothers, Nick Nappier, Robert Nappier and Danny Nappier.

Wayne served in the United States Army for over twenty-one years and received two Purple Hearts for wounds suffered in combat. He was awarded numerous medals and decorations while serving, to include the Bronze Star Medal. During his Army service, he graduated from one of the very first Drill Sergeant classes at Fort Jackson, after which he was responsible for the training of many of the soldiers who passed through Fort Jackson for basic training.

While still enlisted in the Army, Wayne earned an undergraduate degree at Coker College and a MasterºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s Degree at Pepperdine University. Upon his retirement from the Army, Wayne was an instrumental part of the opening of the Columbia Marriott Hotel, where he served as the hotelºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s Director of Human Resources.

The family wishes to thank the staff at NHC Parklane as well as the nurses and doctors who cared for Mr. Nappier at Prisma Richland Memorial Hospital.

Memorials may be made to the AlzheimerºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s Association.

Silas Henry Baggett, Jr., age 65 of Oneida TN, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on March 30, 1955 to the late Carey and Henry Baggett, Sr.; and was principal of Lake City Elementary in Rocky Top, TN.

Henry was a 1973 graduate of Mt. Pisgah High School in Kershaw, SC where he played football, basketball, baseball, and golf. He was proud to be on the 1971 State Runner up and 1972 State Championship team in basketball. Henry received his BachelorºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s Degree from ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ and his Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina. He taught math at Lugoff Elementary and was a teacher and coach at Lugoff-Elgin Middle and North Central High School. He served as principal at Baron DeKalb Elementary, Mt. Pisgah Elementary, Camden Middle, and North Central High, all in the Kershaw County School District in SC. Henry’s father was the first principal at North Central High, and he was the fourth. He was named 1992 KCSD’s Principal of the Year. In 1997, he was named Assistant Superintendent of Administration for KCSD. In 2004, he and his family relocated to Oneida, TN, when he became Superintendent of Oneida City School District. In 2011, he accepted the principal position at Lake City Elementary. He enjoyed working with students, teachers, and staff, and looked forward to seeing everyone’s smiling face when he went to school.

Henry is survived by his wife of 44 years, who was his high school sweetheart and the one true love of his life: Cindy Gandy Baggett; two sons: Joe Baggett (Bryanna) of Somerset, KY, and Tim Baggett (Ashlinn) of Oneida, TN; two beautiful granddaughters who brought so much joy into his life: Aspyn and Alayna; two sisters: Rebecca Devereux (Art) of Moncks Corner, SC, and Karen Faulkenberry (Benny) of Camden, SC; as well as a host of other family members and friends.

His request was cremation, and a private family memorial service will be held.

In-lieu-of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to LECS Henry Baggett Memorial Fund, make checks payable to LCES with LCES Henry Baggett Memorial in the memo field address Lake City Elementary, 402 Lindsay Ave, Rocky Top, TN 37769, or The Children’s Center at the Cumberlands, PO Box 4314, Oneida, TN 37841.

With the Health Guidelines in place at this time, we ask that you be mindful of the social distancing measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. Masks are required.

Annie Mae Paige Bell
Ridge Spring, South Carolina – Annie Mae Paige Bell peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, November 27, 2020. Annie Mae was the last of 11 children born to the late Frank and Annie Williams Paige. She attended the Aiken County schools and was married the late Leonard Bell, Sr. of Ridge Spring, SC for 49 years. She was the Mother of six children, Linda Bell Abney (deceased), Leonard Bell, Jr., Joyce Bell Winkler (Rev. Preston Winkler), Marvin Bell (Cheryl Bell), Sherie Bell, and Cynthia Bell-Faulks (David).
A private celebration of her life will be held for family and friends with burial at the Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a celebration flower garden will established on the Bell family property located at 1151 Whispering Pine Road, Ridge Spring, SC.

John Anthony Law, age 73, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13th at Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Born July 6, 1946 in Columbia, SC, John was the son of the late Charlton Edward Law, Jr. and Vera Morgan Law. He served honorably in the United States Navy . After his discharge, he entered Coker College and then Winthrop College where he received his Master’s Degree. He taught at the Darlington Academy for several years and also in the public school system of Darlington County until retiring in 2004. John was a member of Darlington Presbyterian Church. His love and passion has been serving the Lord through his ministry of music. He has played for various churches throughout the Pee Dee Region, as well as the Presbyterian communities of Florence.
John leaves to cherish his memory, a God chosen son, Bobby Roller of Clio, SC; one brother, Charlton Edward Law III and his wife Linda of Columbia, SC; two nieces, Margaret Weaver and her husband Troy of Winston-Salem, NC, Sarah Williams and her husband Trevor of Haddonfield, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Darlington Presbyterian Church for the McCown Building, 311 Pearl St. Darlington, SC 29532; or to the Dillon Presbyterian Church for the organ fund, 200 E Harrison St, Dillon, SC 29536. Funeral services for Mrs. Sandra Stokes Blackwell, 78, will be held privately on Friday, March 20th, 2020 at the First Baptist Church Chapel due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Rev. Dr. Greg Boyd will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is caring for the family. Mrs. Blackwell went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Born in Timmonsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Sam Benton Stokes and Dorothy Hill Stokes. Sandra was a graduate of Coker College and taught at the Hartsville Junior High for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed singing in the Music Man and Oliver musicals. She was past president of the Turnage Civitans and also past State Distinguished Lt. Governor of the SC Civitans. For many years she was the vocalist at Lakeview Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Wesley H. Blackwell; children, Karen Conyers, Brent Blackwell (Tonya), Marla Blackwell; grandchildren, Robert Conyers III, Brooke Goss (Eric), Taylor Moody, Wes Blackwell, Jacob Blackwell; great-grandchildren, Tristan Goss, Aubrie Goss, Bentley Goss, Jace Conyers; brother, Perry Stokes (Deb); special cousins, Bill Stokes of Sumter and Martha J. Hanwell of Anderson. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 104 E. Home Ave., Hartsville, SC 29550. The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Evans and Rachel Stacey for their loving care of Sandra. *On March 17th Governor Henry McMaster issued a series of orders for the state, including prohibiting events of 50 people or more. Athletics Hall of Fame – April 24, 2001

Marvin B. Bell graduated from ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a focus on management. During his four-year career on the Cobras basketball squad, Bell held or set several individual game records including Most Field Goals and Most Points. He also established numerous career records during that time, including Free Throws Made, Most Field Goals, Most Points Scored, Most Games Played and Most consecutive Games Played.

By the end of his college career, Bell had played in all 87 games the Cobras played from 1973-1977, scoring 1098 points. At the time of his induction into the ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ Athletics Hall of Fame, Bell is ranked No.9 on the CobrasºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™ All Time scoring List, 24 years after his last game. While a student, Bell was elected to the May Court and he served on the Recreation Association and the Commissioners.
