Brodderick Roary Class of 1991 has been named Deputy Executive Director at NAESM, Inc. Atlanta, GA. NAESM, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit community-based organization located in Atlanta, GA. NAESM was founded in 1990 to address the lack of services being provided to Black gay and Bisexual men in the late 1980ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s and early 1990ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s. NAESMºìÌÒÊÓÆµ™s mission is to provide national and local leadership to address the myriad of health and wellness issues confronted by Black gay and Bisexual men through advocacy, services, and education. NAESM is one of the first African American community based non-profit organization to stand on the frontlines in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta, Georgia.

Services for Mildred Diane McCaskill Garrison age 73 will be 3:00pm Sunday at St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Rev. Kathy Carr will officiate, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday one hour prior to the services.

Diane passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020. She was born in Hartsville on December 11, 1946. She was the daughter of the late Charlie B. and Mildred Kelley McCaskill.

She was a graduate of Bishopville High School and Coker College. Diane retired from the Saleeby Center (DSS) in Hartsville. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are two brothers, Charlie Richard (Judy) McCaskill, San Jose, CA, Michie A. (Peggy) McCaskill, Florence; beloved step-mother, Edna Kelley McCaskill; three nieces, Eva
Gaddy, Surfside, Vicki McCaskill, Florence and Stephanie Urzi, Rocklin, CA; step-son, Tim (Andrea) Garrison, Jefferson; three step-grandchildren, Clay, Cole and Collier Garrison; numerous cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank Hospice and especially all the friends and neighbors for their loving care during her illness.

Mr. William T. “Billy” Gainey, Jr., 76, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019. Born in W. Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late William Talmage Gainey and Louise Williams Gainey.

Billy was retired from Progress Energy with 30 years of service. He was a graduate of Coker College and while there he enjoyed attending their sports events. He also enjoyed his grandkids, hunting and his dog, “Sassy”.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Wilson Gainey of Hartsville, SC; son, Greg Gainey (Linda) of Hartsville, SC; son-in-law, Rodney Jenkins of Camden, SC; grandchildren, Jacob Jenkins of Van Nuys, CA, Nicolas Jenkins of Camden, SC, Briana Gainey of Conway, SC; brother, Ralph Gainey of Kingsport, TN; sisters, Kathy Brazzell (Robert) of Columbia, SC, Lyn Mitchel (Dwight) of Kingsport, TN.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Ginger Jenkins.

A private burial will be held in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Winnie Allen Byrd King, 57, who entered into rest on Friday, April 27, 2018, will be conducted at 4 o’clock on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hartsville Ward. Bishop Heber J. Watson will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. 

Memorials may be made in her honor to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, 810 Maxwell Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Born in Darlington County, SC, she was a daughter of Elsie Allen Byrd and the late Gary Evans Byrd, Jr. She was the owner of Heartfelt Flowers and More. Previously she worked as a guidance counselor for the Florence County School District. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a graduate of Thomas Hart Academy, ºìÌÒÊÓÆµ, and Webster University, where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Resource Development. Her passions in life were making people happy through her flower arrangements, helping others, and loving her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Freddie King of Hartsville, SC; sons, Evans (Ariel) Braddock of Lake Charles, LA, Myles (Jovanna) Braddock of Oahu, HI, Logan Braddock of Hartsville, SC, Landon King of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Gabrielle (Zachary) McJunkin of Clermont, FL; mother, Elsie Allen Byrd of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Audrey Braddock, Colin Braddock, Noah McJunkin, Emery McJunkin, Windsor Braddock, August Braddock, Logan “L.J.” Braddock, Jr.
