Ms. Hessie Chandler York was born on September 4th, 1950 in Kingstree, SC. She was born to the late David Chandler and the late Dorothy Mae Bostick. Hessie attended the public schools of Florence County, graduating from Carver High School in 1968. At an early age, she joined Wesley United Methodist Church, serving in multiple capacities which included serving as Sunday School Superintendent and on the Usher Board as well as the coordinator of the Friends and Family Day. Hessie was also instrumental in launching the Wesley Food Pantry, which helped to feed the community for many years. Upon graduating from Carver High School, she attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC. She then moved to Freeport, NY, where she joined in a union with Nelson York, Sr. From this union Hessie was blessed with four beautiful children. Hessie relocated back home to Lake City, SC in 1980. She discovered her passion for serving others through volunteering with Pee Dee Coalition against domestic violence and sexual assault, and as a Guardian Ad Litem. This led her to pursue a degree in sociology. She graduated with honors from Coker College in Hartsville, SC in 1994 with a B.A. in Sociology. After graduating, she was employed with Willowglen Academy until retirement. During her retirement, she continued to work with children through her employment at the Florence County Alternative Education Center. Hessie leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children, Tonya York (Travis) Burgess (Mint Hill, NC), Nelson (Gwen) York III (Weddington, NC), Pamela York (Florence, SC), and Melva York (Charlotte, NC); Four loving sisters, Lorine Chandler (Lake City, SC), Juanita (Ross) Farrington (Myrtle Beach, SC), Marie (Charles) Gamble (Lake City, SC), and Maryann Hampton (Columbia, SC); Two aunts, Shirley Nesby (Brooklyn, NY) and Rebecca Fulton (Kingstree, SC); an uncle, Brice Chandler (Charleston, SC); six grandchildren, Cameron Gamble, Travis (TJ) Burgess Jr, Aaron Gamble, Ethan Creel, Tamia Burgess, and Andrew James (AJ) York, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Julia C. Howell, 69, of Cayce, SC, wife of Robin Howell went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. She was born on July 3, 1950 in Elizabeth City NC. to the late James E. Collier and Alice J. Hooper Collier. Julia went to Elizabeth City Pasquotank public schools as a child. She went to work in banking after high school at the age of 17. She studied Fine Arts at the College of The Albemarie, continuing her education at Coker College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. She worked for Southern First bank as a Mortgage Executive and then as a Mortgage Loan originator at Crescom Bank. She was a hard worker, sometimes working late into the night just to help people achieve their dream of a new home. She was highly respected in her field. Julia also loved to sing. She was choir member at Mt. Horeb Church of Lexington.
In addition to her loving husband she is survived by one son, Michael Pritchard and his wife Staci, both of West Columbia, SC. four sisters, Bonnie Collier, Connie Krist (Ernist), Tammy Fates (Charlie), Debbie Ball; and one brother Rob Tanner (Lori). Julia will be sadly missed by her fur babies, Ragnar, Kaleesa and Regan; and her three cats. In lieu of flowers, the family request you make donations to the Cancer Society or the ASPCA. Jennifer Elaine Woodard Gibson died on September 15, 2019 in Hemingway, South Carolina. Funeral services were held on September 21, 2019 at Jerusalem African Methodist Episcopal Church, Reverend Jerry Smalls, Sr., pastor.

Mrs. Gibson was born on January 24, 1966 in Hemingway, SC, to Mr. Harvey L. Woodbury, Sr. and Mrs. Janie L. Burgess Woodbury. She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1984. Jennifer served her country admirably, in joining the South Carolina Army National Guard 1052nd Transportation Company, Kingstree, SC, and was deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991. She retired honorably as a Sergeant. Jennifer attended Florence-Darlington Technical College and graduated with an Associate红桃视频檚 Degree in Agribusiness Technology. At 红桃视频, Hartsville, SC, she obtained a Bachelor红桃视频檚 Degree in Business Administration/Marketing. Jennifer红桃视频檚 was employed with International Paper Co., Georgetown, SC. She joined Jerusalem A.M.E. Church at an early age, and was a member of Big Four Chapter No. 211 Order of the Eastern Star. On September 18, 1991, Jennifer was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Clarence Gibson. Together, they were blessed with the birth of a daughter.

Surviving are her husband, Clarence Gibson, Hemingway, SC; her daughter, Clarissa Monique Gibson, Hemingway, SC; her step-children, Boris Gibson, Raleigh, NC, Tracy Gibson, Georgetown, SC, and Ja红桃视频橬ece Gibson, Atlanta, GA; her siblings, Pecolia Snow, Orangeburg, SC, Linda Vereen, Terry Woodbury, Hemingway, SC, Cynthia Geathers, Georgetown, SC, Lt. Colonel Harvey Woodbury, Jr., Goose Creek, SC, Eric Woodbury, Goodyear, AZ. Funeral services entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dee Hendrix Welsh, 63, will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dan Sullivan will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, April 19th, 2019 at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Dee died peacefully on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019. Born in Hartsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charles “Jack” Hendrix and Sara Dot Teal Hendrix. She was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, serving many years in the choir and as secretary. Dee was retired from Sonoco Products Co. with 30+ years of service.

Dee was an avid Clemson University fan and was 红桃视频淎ll In红桃视频 through her faith, family, and friends. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family.

Surviving are her son, Trey Smith (Leslie) of N. Augusta, SC; daughters, Nancie Benson (Tom) of Durham, NC, Amy Welsh (Steve Phillips) of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Sara Purvis (Ted), Rinee Elgin (Jim), June Johnson (Nolen), all of Hartsville, SC; brothers, Bert Hendrix (Jane) and William Hendrix (Teresa) of Hartsville, SC, Jimmy Hendrix (Cherri) of Fort Mill, SC. Dee was blessed with a grandson whom she adored, Walker Trey Smith.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel “Rip” Welsh, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2240 Bethlehem Road, Hartsville, SC 29550.

Wesley Floyd Harrell, 65, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, after an illness.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2017, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Florence. Burial with full military honors will follow in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

He was born in Florence, a son of the late David Leon and Doris Watford Harrell. He graduated from Southside High School and 红桃视频 with a degree in business administration. Mr. Harrell served honorably in the United States Air Force and the South Carolina Army National Guard, 132nd Military Police Company, from which he retired. It was during his service in the National Guard that he was called to active duty during Desert Storm. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Harrell faithfully served the City of Florence as a lieutenant in the Florence Police Department until his retirement. He was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Leon Harrell; and his parents-in-law, Keels and Freddie Brockington. He is survived by his wife, Jane Brockington Harrell, and their children, Emily H. (Blake) Lyles of Sumter, SC, and Wesley Brockington Harrell of Columbia, and grandson, William Blake Lyles, Jr., of Sumter; a son, David Jay Harrell of Florence; a sister, Marilyn (Ted) Stewart of Florence; a sister-in-law, Carol Ann Harrell of Florence; two special nephews, T. J. Rodgers and Clay Rodgers, both of Lake City; and a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
