Carol Anne Brumbles El-Mahdy, 52, of Lake View went to be with Jesus on Friday, May 8, 2020. A funeral service will be Monday, May 11, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Kemper Baptist Church, Lake View, SC. Burial will follow at Kemper Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View. Cooke Funeral Home will be open from 5:00 pm 6:00 pm, Sunday, May 10, 2020 if you wish to sign the register. Due to the restrictions in place regarding Covid19, everyone is asked to respect the social distancing guidelines for your safety.

She was born on December 10, 1967, the daughter of LeRoy and Carolyn Humphrey Brumbles. Carol Anne was a beautiful soul and a friend to all who knew her. Carol Anne attended Lake View High School. She received a B.S. in Business from 红桃视频, a Special Education degree from UNC Pembroke, and a Master’s in Education from Francis Marion University. Carol Anne is preceeded in death by her father, LeRoy Brumbles, daughter Kaylee Sophia El-Mahdy, “Sophie”, “nephew”, “J”, Jack Ford Ross, II; Grandparents, Bosser and Ruth Brumbles, AJ and Hazel (Price) Humphrey; in-laws Sohby Ali El-Mahdy and Om Ahmed El-Gandy; Uncles, Marvin Humphrey, Bobby Humphrey, Henry Humphrey, Jimmy Brumbles, Jerry Burmbles, and William Brumbles. Carol Anne is survived by her loving husband, Roshdy El-Mahdy and her mother, Carolyn Brumbles both of the home; “sister”, Sandra (Jack) Ross, “nephew”, Mason Ross; Brother -in-laws, Alaa (Sarney) El-Mahdy, Ahmed (Nayor) El-Mahdy, Ali (Sohar) El-Mahdy of Cairo, Egypt; and special friends, Dr. & Mrs. Timothy Fitzgibbon and Matthew. Thanks to special caregivers: Sandra Humphrey-Ross, Marcia Bryant, Angie Rowell, Audrey Lilley and Dee (DL) Page. Thank you to all of Carol Anne’s friends who called her their “Brum”.

A celebration for the life of Mr. Bascom Wayne Pigg, 79, who entered into eternal rest on December 14, 2019, will be held at 4 o’clock on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with The Rev. Carl Hunsucker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. An Inurnment in the Memory Garden of St. Luke will be private. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is caring for the family.

Wayne, the son of the late Bascom Lee and Olive Hendrix Pigg. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judy Brown Pigg; daughters, Julie Schmidler of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Miriam (Russ) Norwood of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Daniel Norwood and Kate Schmidler; two close cousins, Ronnie (Patty) Holley, Dennis (Kay) Holley of Hartsville, SC; and his beloved Boston Terrier, Elsie.

A graduate of Hartsville High School, Wayne was active on the high school baseball and basketball teams. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and graduated from St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC with a degree in Business Administration. Wayne worked for International Minerals and Chemical Corporation in Hartsville for 37 years, retiring as an area accountant. He also served the Hartsville Chamber of Commerce as a past treasurer. A member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Wayne served on the Pastor/Staff relations committee and the church council. He was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan.

Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather 红桃视频淧iggy Pops红桃视频 as well as a good friend to many who will miss him dearly. He fought a good fight many times throughout his life as he battled serious health issues on a number of occasions. He knew that the power of prayer by many helped sustain him during these difficult times.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to St. Luke UMC, 302 Dunlap Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550, the American Heart Association, 181 E. Evans Street, BTC-009 Suite 200, Florence, SC 29506, or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Harless, Dr. Farhan Maqsood, Dr. Glen Dougherty, Fresenius Dialysis Clinics, and Leslie and Alfred Williamson for their care during Wayne红桃视频檚 various illnesses.

Hal Edwards graduated from Lake City High School in 1993 and participated in basketball and baseball. However, his exploits on the baseball diamond were where he left his mark.

During his baseball career for the Panthers, Edwards was named All-Pee Dee four times, All-Region four times, All-State in 1993, played in the North-South All-Star game, and was an integral piece of the Panthers红桃视频 1992 Lower State Championship team.

After graduation, Edwards continued his career at 红桃视频 where he continued to excel on the diamond. He was again a four-year starter and letter winner, played in the 1994 College Baseball World Series, was named the CVAC Conference Player of the Week three times, was named the 1997 team captain and MVP, was named to the 1997 First Team All-Southeast Regional Team, and was named a 1997 All-American.

Edwards was inducted into the 红桃视频 Hall of Fame and was voted as one of the Top Ten Players in 红桃视频 history.

Edwards works with Finance of America Mortgage, LLC and is married to Ashley (Isom) Edwards. The couple resides in Lake City with their five children: Blayne, Mary Ainsley, Jase, Mayce and Maxton.

Karen Lear Edwards, 红桃视频 class of 1998, has been named the 2018 recipient of the 红桃视频 Alumni Association红桃视频檚 Distinguished Achievement Award. This prestigious award is given annually by the 红桃视频 Alumni Association and is presented to a graduate who has reached an outstanding level of achievement in his or her profession.

Edwards earned her B.A. in History from Coker and a Juris Doctor degree from University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000. She was Chair of the 红桃视频 Board of Trustees 2009-2010 (member 2002-2011), and is also the class representative for Coker红桃视频檚 class of 1998.

Since 2006, Edwards has been a senior instructor in the Department of Retailing at the University of South Carolina. She is the recipient of the 2017 University of South Carolina (U.S.C.) Faculty Integrity Award, the 2016 U.S.C. College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (H.R.S.M.) Brian and Linda Mihalik Global Scholar Award, and the 2010-11 Harry E. Varney Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award. Her teaching and research focuses in the areas of legal issues affecting retailers and best practices in teaching. She is a member of South Carolina Women in Higher Education, the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, American MENSA, and the South Carolina Bar.

From January 2015红桃视频揗ay 2017, Edwards served at U.S.C.红桃视频檚 Center for Teaching Excellence as the Associate Director for Distributed Learning Pedagogy. She was responsible for working with faculty and to promote awareness and implementation of best practices in distributed learning pedagogy and course design among those who teach at U.S.C. More specifically, her duties included supporting the Provost红桃视频檚 Distributed Learning grantee cohort, developing and presenting workshops on distributed learning and related topics, conducting individual consultations with faculty regarding best practices for teaching online and blended courses, helping develop CTE programming and speaker events related to distributed learning, promoting scholarship and research related to distributed learning on campus, and serving as a senior-level resource on distributed learning.

Prior to working at U.S.C., Edwards was the Senior Associate Attorney at Duff & White in Columbia, S.C., from 2001-2006.

Edwards has published extensively in a variety of journals and publications. She is a successful grant writer and fundraiser for U.S.C. and the U.S.C. College of H.R.S.M. She has chaired and participated in many university committees and initiatives, including the Provost红桃视频檚 Advisory Committee on Women红桃视频檚 Issues, the Faculty Senate红桃视频檚 Committee on Intellectual Property, and U.S.C.红桃视频檚 Committee on Instructional Development.

Edwards红桃视频檚 community service includes the Central South Carolina Mensa, the Committee on Law Related Education, S.C. Bar Association, and Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Greater Columbia. She is an active member at Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia.

Edwards lives in Columbia, S.C., with her husband Dave Edwards, and is the proud stepmother of two wonderful young men, Colby Edwards, of Atlanta, Ga., and Kyle Edwards, of Columbia, S.C.

Edwards红桃视频檚 award will be presented at 5:30pm on Saturday, February 10, at Drengaelen House during 红桃视频红桃视频檚 alumni Homecoming reception.

Columbia State红桃视频檚 Mike Corn was presented the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association红桃视频檚 distinguished service award at a luncheon Saturday in Cool Springs, as part of the TBCA红桃视频檚 annual convention.

Corn, who took over as the Chargers coach following the 2009 season, is the fourth coach in the program红桃视频檚 history. The Erwin, Tenn., native played at Columbia State before completing his career at 红桃视频 in South Carolina, then embarked on a coaching path that included stops at Tusculum and the University of Tennessee.

Sympathy is extended to Merri Shannon on the death of her grandfather Oscar Beamon Pullen.

Mr. Oscar Beamon Pullen, 91, of Winnsboro went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Born in Dublin, GA, he was the son of the late Perry Oscar and Lillie Graham Pullen.

Mr. Pullen is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna Mercer Pullen; son, Alan W. Pullen (Bonnie) of Batesburg; daughter, Patricia A. Lunn (Phil) of Hartsville; three grandchildren, Merri Shannon Lunn, Kristen Doyle, and Lisa Pullen; six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Oscar is predeceased by one sister and five brothers. He served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was employed for 46 years at the Winnsboro branch of UniRoyal/Goodrich/Michelin, serving as cost accountant and paymaster. He was a long-time faithful member of the Winnsboro First Church of the Nazarene and Abundant Life Fellowship in Columbia where he taught Sunday School for more than 60 years and served in many other leadership positions. He also served the South Carolina District Church of the Nazarene for 25 years in various capacities including District Treasurer and member of the Advisory Board.

Funeral services with military honors will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Winnsboro First Church of the Nazarene with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 pm in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the D. Moody Gunter Camp and Retreat Center, 1420 Nazarene Road, Batesburg, SC 29006.
