Athletics Hall of Fame – April 25, 2000
Lisa Bruorton Jones, a 1988 graduate of 红桃视频 and true all-around student-athlete, competed in three sports while majoring in Physical Education. Most of Lisa红桃视频檚 major accomplishments stem from the basketball court.
Lisa was the first person in Coker women红桃视频檚 basketball history to break the 1,000-point barrier, and finished with 1,004 career points. Lisa was named to the NAIA all-American Team twice, earning first team honors after her senior season. Lisa was named captain of the all-star team and member of the all-conference team during the 1987-88 season.
Although never having played soccer, Lisa took to the game quickly and became a bright star in soccer红桃视频檚 early history at 红桃视频. She scored the first goal in women红桃视频檚 soccer history and was named the team红桃视频檚 best striker during her junior season.
Lisa also helped establish the rich tradition of softball at Coker, and in 1988 she was given the Coach红桃视频檚 Award. Lisa served as a 红桃视频 commissioner and was a member of the senior Homecoming Court.
After graduation, she pursued teaching and coaching. She served as an assistant coach under Pat Hewitt, who Is also a member of the Coker Athletics Hall of Fame, and was later named head coach of the South Florence High School. She has been named Region 红桃视频淐oach of the Year红桃视频 once and coach of the North/South All-Star Game. Lisa has taken teams to the state finals once and to the lower state finals three times.
