AIKEN 红桃视频 Carol has completed her journey through the many stages of Dementia. She passed away calmly at The Place at Shadow Oaks. Carol was born in Greenwood, SC, to the late Helen Hilton Uprichard Marshall and Jack Hampton Uprichard.

She is survived by her husband Ron of Aiken and daughters Leigh Garrett Norton (Michael) of Aiken and Mary Catharine Franks (Bert) of Lake Wylie. Carol was RowRow to granddaughters Lauren Norton, Allie Norton Pebbles (Danny) and Maddie Franks.

She graduated from Greenwood High School, Class of 红桃视频64, attended Coker College and the University of South Carolina Aiken, earning a degree in English and Education. She was awarded a Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina. Carol taught English at Silver Bluff High School, was a sponsor of the Beta Club and reinstated the Teacher Cadet program. She found teaching her life红桃视频檚 passion.

She also enjoyed her time outside of work by membership in many clubs around Aiken, including Sand River Woman红桃视频檚 Club, Sunshine Garden Club, PDK Sorority, and was a Girl Scout leader for years. After retirement, we planned to travel but circumstances prevented long trips, so we shared family vacations to Edisto and Highlands.

Carol was a worker; our yard and house were always kept tidy. After that work, she would 红桃视频渉it the pool红桃视频 for refreshment.

The family thanks many people in our lives, but especially the staff at Shadow Oaks: Lenzie, Minnie, Sheran, and the rest of the ladies. Shadow Oaks was exceptional in care and concern for Carol.

Pam Randolph deserves special recognition for her years of hospice care and her compassionate nursing skills.

Memorials made in Carol红桃视频檚 name may be directed to the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, P.O. Box 1702, Aiken, SC 29802 or the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.

The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., with the Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Following the service, a Celebration of Life reception will be held at Newberry Hall.

Pawleys Island, South Carolina – Dianne Stanton Ward

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, Dianne Stanton Ward, passed away in her sleep at the age of 75.
Dianne was born on August 6, 1947, in York, SC to David and Evelyn (Nichols) Stanton. She graduated from Clover High School, and then went on to pursue multiple degrees in higher education. She received her BS in Physical Education from Coker College in 1968, followed by her EdD in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1979, and finally her EdD in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1979.

In 1969 she joined the faculty at Coker College as an instructor and assistant professor and remained there until 1975. (She also served on the Coker Board of Trustees from 1977 to 1979, and, at the time, was the youngest board member ever!) In 1975 she joined the faculty at the University of South Carolina where she would stay for over 23 years serving in many different roles and responsibilities including the Interim Dean for the School of Public Health from 1997 to 1998. It was here where she honed her craft as both an educator and researcher. USC was a very special place for Dianne where she made life-long friends and became a die-hard Gamecock fan.

In 1998 she took a huge personal and professional leap of faith when she left South Carolina to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina. This would become the most important and impactful move of her professional career. While at UNC, her work in the field of childhood nutrition and physical activity skyrocketed. Her research, and the programs that came out of this research, will continue to impact people, particularly children, for many years to come. Dianne loved her work and her wonderful staff at UNC so much that she never wanted to retire. She passed away while she was still doing the work that she loved with the people she loved.

Although being an educator and researcher truly defined Dianne, she had many other layers. She was a very spiritual person who cared deeply about the environment. She was obsessed with birds and even kept a journal to log down all the species of birds that she would see. She was an incredibly generous person who gave anything to anyone who needed it. Whether it was her time, money, friendship, or mentorship, Dianne was filled with compassion and a desire to help. She was a genuine person who had a warm smile and an infectious laugh. She loved books (especially good mysteries), entertaining, dancing, and going to the beach. Her dream was to have a beach house on Pawleys Island, which she was able to achieve before her untimely passing.
Dianne was preceded in death by her parents, David and Evelyn Stanton, her brother, David Stanton Jr, and her beloved daughter Eliza Faris Ward. She is survived by her daughter, Johnna Massoni, (Mark), her sister, Leslie Couick (Steve), her niece, Shawn Stanton Carr (Chuck) and her three grandsons who were the absolute loves of her life: Micah Ward (19), Shiloh Ward (18), and Brady Massoni (16).

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Southern Charm Events, 534 Waterford Glen Way, Rock Hill, SC 29730. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Audubon Society, Trinity United Methodist Church of West Asheville, NC, or the聽.

Joan Ladinig Abernathy – Ok, class of 红桃视频68, I红桃视频檓 taking a break from working off my 红桃视频減andemic pounds红桃视频 by using my old CD of 红桃视频淪weating With The Oldies红桃视频 by Richard Simmons. Who would have ever thought that we would be living in a Pandemic during our lifetimes? As the days and weeks pass by I am spending more time reconnecting with old friends and acquaintances than ever before. We are sharing wonderful memories, some tears over sad ones, and lots of laughter in between. My hope is that you are doing the same because this is an unforeseen opportunity that we cannot ignore.

Nancy Baker Bell thanks her beautiful classmates for all the love and support upon the loss of her beloved son, James, in January. 红桃视频淲e are lifted and sustained by kindness of friends and happy memories. We红桃视频檙e sequestered at Blufton with Jimmy back and forth to front lines in Hartsville. We are well and pray all of you are safe and healthy also. Our girls红桃视频 families are coming to the river for Spring break so we红桃视频檒l be playing games, boating and enjoying social distancing on the dock. My very best to all.红桃视频

Susan Reinhard Allred is adapting to being alone with the passing of her husband, Tom, this past Fall. She红桃视频檚 become quite the survivor, distancing with her neighbors, walking and tending her flower beds. She will be glad when this is all over so she can visit with friends, get hugs and have a meal out!

Barbara Nexsen Lansche wants us all to know one important thing红桃视频焯沂悠禎We are directed to pray红桃视频or God红桃视频檚 will, for our world, for each other, and for ourselves.红桃视频 She has been reflecting on how special our times at Coker were and prays for all of us until we can meet again, please know that you are loved.

We also share in the grief of Judy Brown Pigg on the passing of her husband Wayne whom many of us knew when we were students at Coker. Judy hopes that everyone is staying well and safe and not going too crazy with all this stay at home business. She红桃视频檚 worked puzzles, read books, and watched enough movies and TV to last her a lifetime! She红桃视频檚 looking forward to a time when our class can gather again and enjoy catching up.

I chatted with Martie Dobson White and learned that she and Jim are both doing fine. She红桃视频檚 praying that all our classmates and families are staying safe and well throughout this event.

It appears that the Coker College Class of 1968 is now definitely a 红桃视频減art of History红桃视频 as we journey together through this Pandemic.
