It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral, Inc. announces the passing of Deacon Phyllistine Harkless Eaddy of the Syracuse Community of Darlington. Deacon Eaddy transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in a Florence hospice facility.

The family of Deacon Phyllistine Harkless Eaddy in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, would love to be surrounded by your presence. They acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions and ask that those who attend the service ensure you are wearing BOTH MASKS AND GLOVES and practice social distancing. During this time, the family needs mostly your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Graveside service will be 12 Noon on Sunday, June 7, 2020 in Lawson Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Interment will follow.

Life’s Reflections

Deacon Phyllistine Harkless Eaddy born January 29, 1947, to the late Rev. Julius C. and Ethel Lee Arthur Harkless in Darlington, SC. Deacon Eaddy passed away peacefully on June 3, 2020, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC.

Deacon Eaddy accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Lawson Groove Baptist Church at an early age. Church always came first to Deacon Eaddy, and she always enjoyed all of her positions that she held Deacon Eaddy was a faithful greeter to everyone who enters into the Lord红桃视频檚 house. Deacon Eaddy was the first to start the praise team, she was a member of various choirs, usher board, Pastor Ministry, she taught Bible and Sunday school, was a missionary, and she served faithfully on the Deacon Board Ministry. Deacon Eaddy was dedicated to her church, and her church family will greatly miss her.

Deacon Eaddy was raised in Syracuse Community where she attended and graduated from Spaulding High School in Lamar, SC. She later attended Morris College in Sumter, SC, where she was an active member of the college choir. After college, Deacon Eaddy married James Procter 红桃视频淛P红桃视频 Eaddy, where they raised their beautiful daughter Gloria (Ronnie) Jordan together.

Deacon Eaddy worked as a substitute teacher at Spaulding Elementary School, and then she became a full-time teacher at Pine Middle School. She later became a valuable worker at McLeod Hospital in the medical records department, where she retired. She furthered her education at Coker College, where she graduated with honors in Psychology and Social Work.

Deacon Eaddy was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Julius C. and Ethel Lee Harkless, two brothers, Jay Goodson and Leo Julius Harkless, sister, Barbara Harkless and niece, Yu红桃视频檛onyia Jones.

Deacon Eaddy leaves to cherish her memories of her beautiful daughter, Gloria (Ronnie) Jordan of Suffolk VA; Sister, Judy Jones of Charlotte, NC; Sister-In-Law, Patricia Ann Harkless; A very special Aunt, Ruby Lee Garner of Darlington SC; Uncle, Rufus (Wyomia) Harkless of Baltimore MD; Two lovely grandsons Darius and Treyson Jordan both of Suffolk VA; Five Grant-Grand Children; Teniya, Tiana, Tyler, Landon and Harlem of Suffolk VA; Special nephews; Delaine 红桃视频淒anny红桃视频 (Tanya) Daniels of Darlington, SC, TyKobi Jones, and Franklin 红桃视频淪peedy红桃视频 Jones of Charlotte, NC; Loving nieces, Evangla (Alex) McArthur of Bishopville, SC, Latricia (Lee) Green of Darlington, Nicole Jones of Charlotte, NC, and Maya (Donnell) Slade of Columbia, SC.

After Deacon Eaddy became ill, she could always call on a very special cousin Antonio 红桃视频淭ony红桃视频 Gardner.

Deacon Eaddy will be missed by a host of other family and friends too numerous to name whom she loved dearly.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 1730 Syracuse Community Road, Darlington.

Laronda Bethea was born on September 18, 1975 in Mullins, South Carolina to Linda Moody and the late James Jackson. She departed her life on December 20, 2019 surrounded by her family.

She attended Mullins High School where she graduated with the Class of 1993. She then went on to further her education at Coker College where she received her Bachelor of Science, Class of 2007. She was employed at Johnson Control in Florence, South Carolina.

Laronda had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.

She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories of her mother Linda Moody; her two daughters: Rodasha Howard (Marion, SC) and Jaylin Legette (Killeen, TX) and two sons: Jacqua Bethea and Rashawn Bethea both of Mullins, SC; three grandchildren: Davion, Zoe and Paris; four sisters: Lashanda Bethea (Mullins, SC), Lasonya Behtea (Florence, SC), Karen (Fredrick) Follett (Greenville, SC) and Quintina Green (Mullins, SC); eight brothers: Shawn Moody (Mullins, SC), Kewaski Bethea (Charlotte, NC), Jermaine Jackson (Columbia, SC), Mario Jackson (Raleigh, NC), James Jackson (Unicia, NY), Lorenza Jackson (Unicia, NY), Warren Howell (Newport News, VA) and Eddie (Tammy) Hayes (Fayetteville, NC); grandparents: Helen and Jim Phillips; six aunts and seven uncles; and a host of great aunts, great uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special friends including: Esther Brunson, Angela Sindab, Shawan Gainey, Matt Ford and Cynthia Wilson.

Marcel Boggs, 53, of Florence passed away on 07/31/2019. He was born in Mullins, SC to Linda (Floyd) Boggs and the late Mancel Boggs, Sr. Marcel served in the U.S. Army for two years. Upon his return, he attended Francis Marion University where he played basketball. Known as the “big man on campus”, Marcel was an integral part of the 1990 team that went to the NAIA Men’s National Basketball Championship Tournament. After a successful college career, Marcel played one season of Professional Basketball in Belgium. Upon his return, Marcel and his wife began raising their beautiful family together. He later attended school at night to complete his college degree. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Coker College. He was a teacher and a coach before his health declined. Marcel loved his students and athletes and believed in building a strong foundation in learning the basics in life and sports. His impact on others has created an everlasting memory for those that knew him. For 20 years, he worked with the Pepsi Carolina Classic as the announcer, earning him recognition as the “Voice of the Classic”. However, Marcel is best known for his singing. He was an extremely gifted singer and musician, using his talents to bring joy to those who heard him. Marcel loved the Lord and was humbled by the many miracles God performed in his life. It is that living testimony that will continue to bring glory to God forever. Marcel is survived by his wife, Becky (Shane) Boggs, son Richard Boggs of Montana, two daughters, Caitlyn (Boggs) Harris and Emily Boggs, a granddaughter, Audrey Harris, all of Florence. He is also survived by his mother, brother Rickey (Rockie Lynn) Boggs of Ohio and a sister Mishelle Harvey of Chapin and his Uncle Allen (Dawn) Floyd of Mullins, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and “adopted” children. A church-led Celebration of Life will be held at Lebanon Church located at 7005 Friendfield Road, Effingham, SC on Monday, August 5 at 11am. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Lebanon Church or the Boys & Girls Club of Florence in Marcel’s memory.

Courtney Barton Ingle named the 2017-2018 Lexington District Three Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Batesburg-Leesville Middle School teacher Courtney Ingle on being named the 2017-2018 District Three Teacher of the Year during the District红桃视频檚 annual Teacher of the Year Banquet this evening at Southern Occasions. Courtney was selected from four finalists including Randi Curry from B-L Primary School, Jessica McCleskey from B-L Elementary School and Paul Spence from B-L High School.

In addition to a host of other prizes, Courtney was also given the keys to a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, courtesy of Herlong Chevrolet-Buick of Batesburg-Leesville. Courtney will have the privilege of driving the vehicle for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. This is the first time in Lexington School District Three history that a prize of this magnitude has been awarded to a District Three Teacher of the Year. According to officials with South Carolina Future Minds, the vehicle donation also makes Lexington Three one of only three districts statewide that provides a car to its District Teacher of the Year winner.

Courtney will go on to compete in the South Carolina State Teacher of the Year competition, which begins in January.

Carlton Deese has been named executive director of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.

Deese, a licensed nursing home administrator, is currently the associate director at Georgia War, which has served the veteran community for nearly 50 years with a strong emphasis on the individual needs of each veteran. The 192-bed facility, affectionately known as 红桃视频淭he Blue Goose,红桃视频 is owned by the Georgia Department of Veterans Service and operated by Augusta University and its health system.

红桃视频淐arlton红桃视频檚 commitment and responsiveness to the needs of the veteran residents has been quite impressive,红桃视频 said Lee Ann Liska, CEO of AU Medical Center. 红桃视频淗e has provided excellent support and steadfast guidance as associate director since 2013.

A licensed nursing home administrator, Deese was selected last year as one of the Top 10 in 10 Young Professionals to Watch by the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce and聽Augusta Magazine,聽and he was named to聽Georgia Trendmagazine红桃视频檚 prestigious聽.

He began his career at 红桃视频 in Hartsville, S.C., where he played baseball and earned a bachelor红桃视频檚 degree in Business Administration. He earned his master红桃视频檚 degree in Healthcare Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. Deese then completed an administrative fellowship at Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he also served as a health systems specialist in the Director红桃视频檚 Office.聽 He later served as associate administrator at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center.

Distinguished Service Award 2017

James graduated from 红桃视频 with a B.A. in communications and went on to receive his Master of Science degree in college student personnel services and administration from the University of Central Arkansas.

James recently joined the staff at Penn State University as the Residence Life Coordinator. Before Penn State University, he was the Community Director at Bucknell University.

As a student at Coker, James was active in campus life, a characteristic that influenced his future career. James红桃视频檚 professional path involves supporting students and their college journeys. 聽He has worked in various capacities at the South Carolina Governor红桃视频檚 School for Science and Mathematics, Claflin University, Central Baptist College and the University of Central Arkansas. He has volunteered at Christ Central Ministry红桃视频檚 Wagener Women红桃视频檚 Well since 2011.

In his spare time, James enjoys being a DJ around campus and at area events, a career that began at 红桃视频 when he spent many evenings entertaining in the Cobra Den.

James currently lives in State College, Pennsylvania.
